Lake Bled Travel Guide What to Do, See & Where to Stay
Lake Bled is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. This lake is located in the Jelenia Góra region of northern Slovenia, not far from the Austrian border. It is framed by stunning snow-capped mountain peaks.
This lake looks like a fairytale, it’s just as looking as an island housing a church sitting in the middle of it. And I also see a castle perched a top of a cliff looking down on it. I was more inspired by its beauty and cannot wait to share all my travel tips for visiting with you.

When to visit & how to get there
The lake looks beautiful in all seasons, but it is certainly the busiest in the world. In July and August, the number of blacks increases so much that no boats are available. And the paths along this side of the lake are completely closed.

However, that’s the reason I feel April, May, September, and October are best for visiting here. Because at this time, you cannot face any type of crowd. We went in early May, and it wasn’t too busy at all. We gave up having many open restaurants and good weather, but luckily got a few short moments of sunshine.

The lake looked magical under a short burst of sunshine.
Reached to Lake Bled is simple. You can fly to Ljubljana airport and hire a car driving is very easy in Slovenia place. Here you can book a taxi in Euro 50. From Klagenfurt in Austria and drive the only 1 hour to reach the lake.

Things to Do at Lake Bled
There’s a lot to enjoy at Lake Bled! You can spend days exploring hiking trails nearby, especially in the beautiful National Park, which also has Mount Triglav — the highest mountain in Slovenia.
Walk Around the Whole Lake
If you’re short on time, walking around Lake Bled is the best thing to do. The full loop is about 6 kilometers long and takes around 1.5 hours. But honestly, it’s so stunning that you’ll likely stop often for pictures — so plan for at least 3 hours to fully enjoy it!

Hike to Ojstrica Viewpoint
Ojstrica is the most popular spot to see amazing views of Lake Bled. The hike starts from the far end of the lake and goes uphill through the trees. It’s a bit steep and rocky in some parts, but the view from the top is totally worth it. Just wait until you see it!

Take a boat out to Bled Island
One of the best things I did at Lake Bled was taking a boat ride to the little island in the middle of the lake. The island is really beautiful and has a small, old church that people have visited for hundreds of years. When you get there, don’t forget to ring the church bell and make a wish it’s said to come true!

Visit Bled Castle
Bled Castle sits high on a cliff and has been there since the 11th century! It’s one of the top places to visit in Lake Bled. Getting there takes a bit of a walk and includes many steps, so it’s not ideal for people who have trouble walking. But once you reach the top, you’ll find a small museum, a charming old chapel, and stunning views of the lake below.

Relax with a Spa Treatment
Bled is known as a spa town, so there are many places where you can enjoy massages and relaxing treatments. We had a couples massage at Ziva Wellness Centre by the lake and also used their lovely pool and spa. It was a peaceful and refreshing way to spend the day.

How long to stay at Lake Bled & where to stay
How long you stay in Lake Bled depends on what you want to do. Some people visit for just one day from Ljubljana, but that only gives you time for a few activities.
To enjoy everything mentioned above, you’ll need at least 2 full days. If you also want to explore the nearby National Park and go on some beautiful hikes, then staying for 3 to 4 nights is a great idea.
There are many hotels in Bled. We stayed right by the lake at Adora Luxury Hotel, and it was a lovely experience.

Our hotel sat right by the lake, with the castle beautifully rising in the background.
Other good places to stay are Vila Bled (but it’s closed in the off-season), Rikli Balance Hotel (which has the great spa we visited), and Grand Hotel Toplice, located right by the lake.

So, what do you think about Lake Bled? Would you want to go there? It really felt like a magical place, and I had such a wonderful time exploring this beautiful part of the world. Take care and enjoy your travels!
